Obviously "incomprehensible horror" isn't going to possible to display on screen, but at the very least you could skirt around its presentation and build up to its reveal. In my eyes, when a product that is inspired by Lovecraftian horror is showing you the Lovecraftian gods in its trailer/preview, it's a clear indication that they've completely missed the point. The game wasn't marketed as Lovecraftian either, it came as a surprise to those who bought the game on release (like me). You gather insight which then allows you to uncover the eldritch horror lying behind the surface the whole game. The game ultimately does start showing you eldritch abominations, but for the first chunk of the game you literally cannot see them, only their effects. The videogame Bloodborne is the perfect example of how to handle Lovecraft, or at least in my mind as perfect as you can get with a visual medium. People in his stories often go mad from just imagining or seeing parts of the creature. The descriptions will often still be lacking and the idea of what the creature is in your mind remains mostly formless. When you read the Necronomicon, even when Lovecraft is describing the visuals, it exists only in your mind. I agree with you that this applies to the nature of eldritch beings, but it also applies to their presentation. Lovecraft isn't just the tentacles that popculture has turned it into. The whole idea behind Lovecraftian horror is the fear of the unknown and the incomprehensible.
